18 Feminine Items Every Woman Should Have in Her Purse
A purse can be a very functional tool when used as intended. Having everything you need throughout the day can make all the difference between a good day and a bad one—and sometimes, between life and death. Yes, life and death!
A purse is not only useful for carrying the things that help you look good throughout the day; it can also help your day run as smoothly and safely as possible.
What you are about to read is our list of 18 items every woman should have in her purse. Of course, each woman’s needs are different. However, this list can be a starting point for any woman who desires to become more refined and is eager to identify areas where she can improve. So, let’s get into the list.

1. Ink Pen
An ink pen is one of those items that can be necessary throughout a busy day. Whether you need to fill out an application or sign something at the post office, it is always good to have your own pen. Investing in a few quality pens is a great idea for anyone who wants to be more refined. Every aspect of your life can benefit from a good upgrade.
Having your own pen can also help you avoid sharing items that may carry germs and bacteria. Think about how many hands might touch a shared pen at the post office! Your pen does not have to be costly or fancy. Places like Office Depot can make custom pens with your business name or favorite scripture. If you personalize them, you may be more mindful about not leaving them behind. How cute is that?

2. Tissue or Handkerchief
Running out of tissues can be inconvenient when you are away from home—especially when you are worried about what might be hanging from your nose. To add a refined touch, choosing a handkerchief instead of disposable tissues can feel especially elegant. Being able to wash and reuse handkerchiefs can also be cost-effective.
Choose something soft and made from natural fibers, such as cotton or linen, to help protect your skin from irritation and chafing.

3. Mirror
A small compact mirror is a useful item to carry. It is common for a woman to pull out her phone and use its dark screen as a mirror. However, someone nearby could mistake that action for recording or taking a picture. A compact mirror is more discreet and makes it clear what you are doing. Putting your phone down for a while and using an item designed for its intended purpose can help you feel more prepared.

4. Lotion
After a restroom break, washing your hands can feel uncomfortable if you cannot follow up with moisturizer. You might even feel self-conscious when handing money to a clerk because the skin between your knuckles looks dry. For your comfort, carrying a small bottle of lotion or a jar of body butter is a great way to stay prepared.
When you are out and about, you will likely wash your hands and need lotion. As wives and mothers, what we carry in our purses is not always just for us; it may be for the family, too. My husband usually needs lotion. Somehow, many men care less about these little things, but when you are prepared, it makes him smile. Our husbands appreciate a prepared wife. They can leave the house with very little and trust that you have everything. It just works!

5. Body Oil or Perfume
When we spend extended periods outdoors, we become familiar with what some people call the “outside smell.” Growing up, when you came inside after playing outdoors, your mother might have said, “You smell like outside.” If you are not familiar with that, let me explain.
Being outdoors and exposed to natural elements—sun, pollen, grass, trees, and pollution in the air—can affect how we smell when combined with our natural body odor. Sometimes it is hard to notice on ourselves, but we may notice it on others. It does not necessarily mean someone lacks proper hygiene, so do not take offense. Be aware that it can happen.
Keeping body oil or perfume in your purse can help you freshen up after being outside, until you can get home and shower for the evening. It is something a feminine woman may want to keep in mind. Just be careful not to overdo it. Too much fragrance can bother people with sensitive sinuses or allergies.

6. Lip Gloss or ChapStick
Chapped lips can make social interactions uncomfortable. Constantly licking your lips can contribute to irritation and dryness, which may leave you feeling self-conscious. The lips are a noticeable feature of the face and can draw attention when you begin to speak. Taking care of them is important.
Too much gloss is unnecessary. Very glossy lips can sometimes be distracting during a conversation. A lighter gloss or an oil-based lip balm may be ideal. The goal is to carry some type of lip moisturizer that you can use throughout the day and in every season.

7. Safety Pin
A safety pin may seem like a small thing, but it can make a big difference. Have you ever popped a button on a blouse or torn the hem of a dress with your heel? Safety pins come in handy when little mishaps happen and you are trying to hold everything together. A safety pin is one of those items that can always be useful.

8. Bobby Pin
I do not know about you, but for us natural sisters, we expect to leave the house with our hair looking one way and come home with it looking completely different. You can laugh—it is funny! Bobby pins come in handy when you need to tame your beautiful, natural hair. Staying prepared is key. Staying cute is a bonus.

9. Scrunchie
To continue with hair care, being able to manage your hair throughout the day is sometimes necessary. You might leave home with a lovely curly style and later decide to pull it back into a ponytail. When that moment comes, it does not matter how the plan changed. You are prepared!

10. Wipes
Wipes are useful for personal care during your “flower” or “time of separation.” They can also help clean up spills in the car, freshen your hands before or after meals, wipe down a swing at the park, or clean your child’s hands after dessert. Wipes are always handy.

11. Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer is a useful alternative when you are on the go and cannot wash your hands right away. However, it should never replace washing with soap and water when those are available. Travel size will work best.

12. Self Defense Item
A personal safety item may be helpful in today’s world. Depending on local laws and your comfort level, options may include pepper spray or another legal self-defense tool. I am not a supporter of violence, but I am an advocate for women taking steps to protect themselves.
Single or married, women should understand how to use and store any safety item responsibly and legally. Be wise. Anyone who is quick to anger or easily triggered should think carefully about carrying a weapon, particularly a firearm. Every woman should consider a safe, appropriate way to protect herself from potential danger.

13. Mints or Gum
For a lady, having bad breath is not cute. Take the time to carry a few peppermints or some chewing gum to keep your breath fresh during conversation. There is nothing pleasant about noticing bad breath while talking with someone.
Gum and mints do not replace good oral hygiene. Take care of your teeth, eat a balanced diet, and visit your dentist regularly. If bad breath persists, consider speaking with a dental or healthcare professional to identify the cause.

14. Nail File or Nail Kit
Keeping a nail file, nail clipper, or small nail kit in your purse can be useful. A painful hangnail can snag on a shirt or sweater and become even more uncomfortable. Having a small nail kit on hand can help you manage these little problems. Every woman can benefit from having something available when a nail issue arises.

15. Membership Card
A woman with a membership is a woman who is not afraid of commitment! Whether it is a gym, salon, recreational center, or favorite department store, memberships can encourage us to invest time in ourselves. Feminine women make space for personal development—mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
Having personal time to enjoy your favorite activities may sound like a small thing, but maintaining a membership often takes effort, investment, and consistency. That is admirable. It does not matter where you go; just go somewhere that supports your growth.

16. Book or Other Reading Material
Many businesses provide pamphlets and magazines in their waiting rooms, but a feminine woman does not mind waiting when she has her own book to read. Carrying your own reading material is ideal, especially if you are selective about what you read.
I personally enjoy wholesome content, including biblical literature and positive reading material. If you are like me, I encourage you to check out my publication, Cover’d Girlz Magazine. I have an amazing team of sisters and writers who have helped build this magazine into what it is today. Thank me later!

17. Business Card or Ministry Card
I personally never pass up an opportunity to share the “Good News.” Ministering to the Most High’s people is something we should all be willing to do. Carrying flyers or business cards can help someone begin their journey toward getting to know and live for God.
A virtuous woman is eager to share what matters to her. Her life is ordered by the Most High, and that is reflected in her conversations, environment, friendships, and interactions. She fears the Most High and lives for opportunities to shine her light for the Father’s glory. Stay ready.

18. Postage Stamps
With social media, texting, and email, handwritten letters may seem like an ancient art. However, everyone should know how to write a letter properly, spell and express their thoughts clearly, and mail a letter.
A feminine woman may enjoy writing letters and sending invitations, “Get well soon” notes, and thank-you cards. One thing she can remember to purchase every month or so is a book of stamps. A letter in the mail adds a special touch to a gift. It is unexpected and personal. Make a habit of writing and mailing letters and cards as often as possible.
Final Thoughts
I hope you found this list helpful. Remember, you can add or remove items depending on your needs and the size of your purse. Choose the things that will be most useful to you.
We are doing our best to become our best selves. Small changes, such as knowing what to keep in your purse, can make a difference in how smoothly your day goes. Sometimes, our attitudes and lack of patience are affected by everyday mishaps that happen because we are not prepared. When you are prepared, you are less likely to become upset when something unexpected happens. You can simply get ready and handle it.
A purse is so much more than an accessory. I personally believe it is a necessity.
Preparation is key. Staying cute is a bonus!
